Airports

  • Spirals and turns
  • Header steel
  • Field fabrication

Western can build, level and integrate baggage claim units into existing or new conveyance systems, starting with the platform through the stainless-steel finisher.

Airline passengers frequently travel with skis, golf clubs, crates, oversized luggage, and other odd-shaped baggage. Western has extensive experience installing the specialty equipment required for these items.

The high-speed BHS systems in airports require precision control systems using photo-eyes and OCR equipment to divert and push items to their proper destination. Our Mechanical and Controls engineers have experience in the design, installation, and startup of complex material-handling systems and are accustomed to the specific challenges associated with meeting thru-put requirements.

Passenger Boarding Bridges

Western has successfully installed more than 250 passenger boarding bridges without disrupting ongoing ramp operations or inconveniencing the traveling public. Included in many of these projects was the removal of existing bridges for reconditioning or salvage.

  • Complete, turnkey project delivery
  • Erection and assembly
  • Support systems upgrades to ground power units and other bridge components
  • Mechanical, electrical, and controls systems upgrades
  • Interior and exterior finishes

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Equipment

United States airport security utilizes some of the most technologically advanced equipment in the world. Since 2001, Western has installed Explosive Detection Systems (EDS) and Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) equipment in more than 75 airports throughout the United States, Guam and the Marianas Islands, including standalone applications and full baggage-handling systems integrations. Western has also assisted Siemens, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing with the installation of passenger checkpoint screening equipment in more than 50 airports nationwide.

Maintenance Access, OSHA Guarding

Western’s engineering department has designed 1000s of feet of catwalk and access platforms, providing maintenance crews safe and convenient access to equipment service areas. Additionally, Western’s engineers have extensive experience in the design of OSHA-compliant machine guarding to modernize equipment systems
